Best Leader Award
Presented to: Ralph
Ralph was the best leader because he understood that they needed democracy. He believed in everyone having a say in decisions. He also believed that everyone should pitch in on helping achieve what had to be done. The other boys only saw that they were doing work. Ralph could look at the big picture and realize that every task had to be done to make their society prosper. This made him a great leader. If the other children had been able to focus like Ralph could, they wouldn't have joined Jack.
Most Civilized Award
Presented to: Piggy
Piggy was one of the only kids to realize what had to be done in order to stay human. He knew that if they lost their structure and order, they would become animals. Unfortunately Piggy was already isolated from the start. He knew what had to be done, but he couldn't do it himself or persuade others to do it. He had the idea to use the Conch to provide some sort of order, and without his glasses, fire would not have been possible. Up to his very last minute, Piggy begged for the boys to remember civilization.
Best Hunter Award
Presented to: Jack Merridew
Jack Merridew was a natural born leader, like Ralph, but he had a very different view on how things should work on the island. He believed in one leader with absolute power. After he finally managed to bring himself to kill a pig, he was changed. His desire for power grew. He scared the boys into joining him, but could only focus on the present. He couldn't look at the big picture like Ralph. His bloodthirst and hate made him an excellent hunter. Unfortunately for his peers, Jack hunts anything he believes he needs to posess or eliminate.
Loyalty Award
Presented to: Sam and Eric, "Samneric"
Sam and Eric were obedient kids. They were a bit wild, justified, as they were trapped in the wilderness, but once they realized an issue was serious, they made sure to follow directions. Unfortunately, their loyalty was eventually founded on fear. They wanted badly to help Ralph, but once they were captured by Jack, they revealed Ralph's secrets to the new tribe leader.
Most Intelligent Award
Presented to: Simon
Simon was always thought of as very strange. He was not a leader, but he didn't exactly comply with any rules. He knew better than to argue with whoever led the tribe, as he would have isolated himself even more. It turns out Simon was very intelligent. He was the first to catch on and see the flaws with the tribe's way of life. He also understood that The Beast was within themselves, meaning he knew that it couldn't be stopped and that it would destroy them. Eventually, it did. If it hadn't been for the adults finally discovering them, the boys would have killed Ralph. Piggy, Ralph, and Simon were the only boys to understand the flaws with their island's way of life. Simon, however, was the first to truly understand the Beast, long before Ralph would understand.
